The Rondo is a theatre located in the cultural precinct of Greenslopes Street in Edge Hill, directly opposite Centenary Lakes. The performance space is a “thrust stage” (one that extends into the audience on three sides). With a seating option on the fourth side, the stage can be “in the round” with a maximum seating capacity of 191. The unique layout enhances the intimate setting with the audience in close proximity to performers on stage.
The foyer and box office open one hour prior to scheduled performances. Patrons can enjoy a drink in an informal setting at the famous fully-licensed Rondo Bar.
The Rondo is a community-driven theatrical company that produces Australian and International plays of a very high standard. The Rondo's Season of Plays has become established as a regular annual feature of the theatre calendar in Far North Queensland. In addition to the main season plays, The Rondo also features smaller-scale Fringe productions.
The Rondo has a strong community focus and encourages new members to volunteer their talents, be they aspiring or experienced actors, producers, backstage, lighting and audio, box office and ushers, artists, props and set construction.
There is a free car park in front of the Rondo Theatre, and plenty of free parking along Greenslopes Street.
