Morning Melodies - Morning Tea with Keith Potger
With his first two solo CDs, SECRETS OF THE HEART and SUNDAY, established in the Australian marketplace, Keith Potger released his newest CD, entitled SMILE NOW, in 2010. It is an album that builds on the image that Keith has of writing strong melodies and thoughtful lyrics.
As on his SUNDAY CD, Keith has collaborated with noted Australian film director, screenplay and lyric writer Frank Howson and three of their works are on SMILE NOW.
Keith has been actively writing individually as well, having road-tested many of his songs while on his solo tours of Australia and the UK. One in particular has caught the ear of his audiences and it has become the "bonus track" on SMILE NOW. It is a light-hearted spoof on what it takes to break into the country music market in Australia. The song is entitled NASAL TWANG and audiences quickly pick up the words and sing along.
Touring has been a rewarding part of Keith's solo activities. Keith said: "Getting to know the loyal fans who have supported The Seekers and now come to my performances is gratifying. l believe that the material on SECRETS OF THE HEART and SUNDAY has opened up an extra market for me too and now the icing on the cake is that they all seem to enjoy my original songs as well as the great hits that the group had in the '60s."
As a founding member of the internationally famous Australian group The Seekers, Keith is already known to countless music industry professionals and fans of the group alike. Awards such as Australians Of The Year 1967, numerous Platinum and Gold Record achievements and concert tours have kept the group's image alive and well for over four decades.
Keith performed solo concerts in the UK in 2007 during which he made a unique appearance with the group he helped to form back in 1969: The New Seekers. He repeated this tour in early 2011. Now back in Australia he has been touring nationally, with concerts in a multitude of regional venues. As well as all this, Keith is in demand for his music and unique reminiscences in the corporate sector.
Most of 2011 has been devoted to writing and arranging original music for a stage musical. However, live performances continue to provide a major part of Keith's activities and that important aspect of this entertainer's life: meeting people and listening to their stories.
Involvement with charity organisations has always been important to Keith. He was Chair of the Australian music industry benevolent fund Support Act Limited Victoria until August this year and remains an active committee member. This is in addition to his ongoing positions as one of the Patrons of the Motor Neurone Disease Association of Western Australia and a Celebrity Ambassador for Variety Victoria and Variety International, the major children's charity.
